This Monday, October 4, 2021, María Lilia Cedillo Ramírez assumed the presidency of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), for the period 2021-2025. She will be the first woman to hold this position in the history of the university.
During the Solemn Session of the University Council, Lilia Cedillo announced that in the next 100 days the work actions will be announced. However, she pointed out that the call for the renewal of the University Council will be issued immediately.

Lilia Cedillo Ramírez announced that a consultation will be held to hear the opinions and ideas of all university students to contribute to the development plan.
"This plan will initiate a series of pending actions to open a new era, a new history, where the primary role of our institution is played by you, the university students."
The new rector of the public university of Puebla said that problems derived from the pandemic will be addressed; therefore, she announced support to all those who are economically vulnerable, due to the death of any of their family members.
"These young university students will be exempted from paying any fees, from registration to graduation. Computer equipment will also continue to be provided to all those who require it."
The support will also be emotional, she said, and promised to install a 24-hour hotline for university students. This will be attended by interns in social service from the Psychology faculty; and later, they will be channeled with professionals to follow an adequate treatment.
To improve and give way to a series of pending actions to improve administrative procedures, she reported that there will be a new governance and will ensure job stability for university students.
"We will give way to a new form of governance, no longer needing the closeness or mediation of certain figures who in the past were the ones through whom this type of management was done. We are going to encourage new leadership in the student and academic spheres.
He assured that his administration will be "open to the opinions of all and to social scrutiny." She pledges to have an effective and efficient administration; and that each of the acquisitions and actions that are made will comply with existing state and federal regulations.
"We know of this great commitment. This institution needs to give a clear account of resources, always within the framework of autonomy."
She will continue teaching
In the speech, Lilia Cedillo pledged to have closeness with university students through a mailbox where everyone can send their needs. And that she will continue teaching.
"I have decided to remain linked to teaching and will continue to teach. I will continue to ask my students what they like and what they dislike."
She assured that clear accounts will be given. on social responsibility and that he will not allow abuses or discrimination against the university community; and she pledged to address gender violence.
"I call on you to ensure that in this university there is no more abuse, to address issues related to gender violence (...) not one more abuse will be tolerated, not a single act of discrimination against a university student. I am committed to having an inclusive institution."
